Inter-State Narco-Module Network Spans Kupwara to Ludhiana, Says DGP Dilbag Singh. Pic/daily excelsior
In a significant development, Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP), Dilbag Singh, revealed the extensive links of an inter-state narco-module that has been causing concerns in the region. The criminal network, which has recently been disrupted, spans from the northern region of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir to Ludhiana, Punjab.
Eight Arrested, Substantial Seizures Made
DGP Dilbag Singh disclosed that law enforcement agencies have arrested a total of eight individuals thus far, with four detained in Kupwara and four in Punjab. The operation yielded a substantial haul, including 30 kilograms of cocaine, an astonishing sum of Rs 5 crore in cash, 40 counterfeit vehicle number plates, passports, and even a German-made revolver.

Narco-Smuggling Route and Narco-Terror Nexus
The investigation, as per DGP Singh, exposed a connection between the inter-state narco-module and Kupwara district. The region’s Amrohi area emerged as a preferred route for narco-smuggling, with the most recent shipment traced to this location. In response to this growing concern, a dozen cases related to narco-terror have been registered in the Amrohi area of Kupwara. While no concrete evidence of drone-dropped narcotics has been found, credible leads suggest physical smuggling of narcotics.
Drug-Dealing Key Accused and Deceptive Tactics
Further investigations into the case led to the arrest of four more individuals, including the alleged key handler of the drugs. It was discovered that the father of this key accused had also been involved in drug dealing. Among the seized items were an impressive Rs 5 crore in cash, counterfeit number plates, passports, and a German-made revolver. DGP Singh shed light on the deceptive tactics employed during the drug transportation. Number plates were used to mislead authorities while transporting the illicit substances from Kupwara to Punjab. The drivers of the drug-laden vehicles would often impersonate police officials, evident from the police badges that were recovered.
Terrorism and Narcotics Nexus
Dilbag Singh emphasized that the narcotics being trafficked into the region from across the Line of Control (LoC) were intended to support and fuel terrorism. This operation has revealed links between the inter-state narco-module and several major terror organizations. As investigations continue, more arrests are expected. Notably, there have been reports of drone-dropped narcotics along the international border in Jammu, adding to the complexity of the issue. With the arrest of these eight individuals, a significant inter-state narco-smuggling network has been dismantled.
The DGP acknowledged the prevalence of drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir and stated that preliminary investigations indicate that approximately 7 lakh individuals in the region have fallen victim to drug addiction. The situation calls for comprehensive efforts to combat this menace and ensure the safety and security of the region.
