Amidst growing controversy surrounding the recent alliance between the BJP and the Janata Dal Secular (JDS) in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar made a significant claim on Thursday. He asserted that over 40 leaders from both the BJP and JDS, who are discontent with the newly forged alliance, are willing to join the Congress party. This statement came in the wake of former BJP MLA Ramappa Lamani, who was denied a ticket by the saffron party for the upcoming assembly elections in the Shirahatti segment, making the decision to switch allegiances and join the Congress without any conditions.

Unrest Over BJP-JDS Alliance

The JDS, led by former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, made the decision to ally with the BJP following a meeting between JDS leader H.D. Kumaraswamy, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President J.P. Nadda in New Delhi. The alliance has generated significant opposition, with many leaders expressing their discontent and desire to seek alternative political affiliations.

Congress Open to New Members

D.K. Shivakumar, who also serves as the Congress state president, shared that numerous applications from over 40 leaders who have expressed their interest in joining the Congress are currently under review. Although their names were not disclosed, Shivakumar emphasized that discussions with local leaders are ongoing, and new members are being inducted into the party gradually. These leaders from both the BJP and JDS hail from various regions of Karnataka, spanning from Bidar in the north to Chamarajanagar in the south.

The opposition to the alliance between the BJP and JDS has led to numerous leaders seeking an alternative political home within the Congress. D.K.
