The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2024), running until June 8, centers on the theme “The basis of multipolarity – formation of new growth centres.” High-level delegations from 45 states and all BRICS countries are participating, as reported by TV BRICS.
SPIEF-2024’s business programme comprises four tracks: “The Transition to a Multipolar World Economy,” “Goals and Objectives of Russia’s New Economic Cycle,” “Technologies for Leadership,” and “A Healthy Society, Traditional Values and Social Development: The Priority of the State.” The programme includes over 150 thematic sessions with more than 1,000 speakers, focusing on strengthening business relations and expanding trade partnerships with the CIS, Arab world, India, China, EAEU-ASEAN, and Latin America.
At the session “SME Development Trends in Russia and India: Ensuring Sustainable Growth,” moderated by Ksenia Komissarova, experts discussed current challenges and opportunities for SMEs in both countries. Sammy Kotwani, President of the Indian Business Alliance (IBA) in Russia, highlighted the growing opportunities for Indian businesses in Russia, especially in the pharmaceutical sector. Purnima Anand, President of the BRICS International Forum, emphasized the importance of inter-regional cooperation and joint programmes to support SMEs in Russia and India.
On June 6, the EAEU-ASEAN business dialogue will explore new trade cooperation approaches, and a session on “Expansion of BRICS” will discuss the potential for transport corridors and digital economy collaboration. The role of BRICS in global food security will also be examined. On June 7, discussions will focus on financial and resource support practices within the international and Russian business communities.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will speak at a key plenary session, reinforcing SPIEF’s position as a premier platform for discussing economic issues affecting emerging markets. The forum, which has been held annually since 1997, attracts representatives from 136 countries, with Oman as the guest country this year. The presidents of Bolivia, Zimbabwe, and other nations are expected to attend.
