Amid escalating tensions with Beijing, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported the detection of eight Chinese naval vessels and four coast guard ships around the country, according to Taiwan News. These vessels were tracked within the last 24 hours until 6 am on Monday, June 3.

In response, Taiwan dispatched naval ships and deployed coastal-based missile systems to monitor the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) activities. This move comes as part of Taiwan’s ongoing efforts to counteract China’s increased military presence in the region.

Since September 2020, China has intensified its use of grey zone tactics—actions that fall between regular military operations and direct conflict, aiming to achieve security objectives without open warfare. This incremental increase in military aircraft and naval ships around Taiwan is a key component of these tactics.

In the first few days of June alone, Taiwan has tracked Chinese military aircraft twice and naval and coast guard vessels 22 times. The MND continues to closely monitor and respond to PLA activities to maintain the security and stability of the region.
