India-Middle-East-Europe Corridor to Be Game-Changer: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently highlighted the transformative potential of the India-Middle-East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), comparing it to the historical significance of the Silk Route. Established during the G20 summit hosted by India last year, the IMEC is poised to be a significant game changer in global economic corridors. PM Modi emphasized the positive roles played by Gulf countries, as well as the support extended by the US and Europe towards this initiative.
In an interview with ANI, PM Modi shed light on the challenges faced in reaching a consensus on the declaration during the G20 summit. Despite speculations regarding potential disagreements due to the Ukraine-Russia conflict, PM Modi’s strategic approach ensured a surprise consensus. He expressed his determination to not defer the resolution to the last moment but to finalize it ahead of schedule, successfully completing the declaration on the first day itself.
The New Delhi G20 Summit witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving India, the US, UAE, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union to establish the IMEC. This corridor is expected to bolster economic cooperation and trade between the participating regions, providing a new avenue for growth and development.

PM Modi further elaborated on the positive diplomatic engagements that unfolded during the G20 summit. The handshake between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and US President Joe Biden garnered global attention, symbolizing the collaborative spirit of the event. PM Modi emphasized his personal friendships with both leaders and their shared commitment to the success of the IMEC.
During the summit, PM Modi’s strategic approach and proactive diplomacy led to the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration unanimously. This achievement marked an early breakthrough as G20 members agreed on key issues, including the Ukraine paragraphs, despite initial differences.
PM Modi also highlighted the significance of hosting G20 events across various states in India, providing an opportunity for global exposure to different regions. He stressed the importance of showcasing India’s diversity and culture to international guests, while simultaneously educating Indian citizens about the G20’s objectives and achievements.
India-Middle-East-Europe Corridor to Be Game-Changer:India’s Commitment to Neighbourhood First Policy
PM Modi reiterated his government’s commitment to the ‘Neighbourhood First’ and Act East policies, emphasizing India’s efforts to foster better ties with neighbouring countries. He highlighted India’s role as a first responder during the earthquake in Nepal and its assistance to Sri Lanka during times of crisis.
Despite challenges in relations with certain neighbouring countries like Pakistan, PM Modi pointed out the complexities arising from their internal politics. He underscored India’s willingness to support and collaborate with its neighbours for mutual growth and prosperity.
In conclusion, PM Modi’s insights into India’s diplomatic engagements, economic initiatives, and neighbourhood policies reflect a comprehensive approach towards fostering global collaboration and regional development. The G20 summit’s outcomes and India’s proactive role therein signify a step towards a more interconnected and cooperative world.
