According to Kejriwal’s legal representatives, his arrest lacks substantiated evidence and constitutes an arbitrary exercise of power. The plea highlights the alleged misuse of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to undermine democratic structures.

The Enforcement Directorate alleges that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) benefited from the alleged liquor scam’s proceeds, using them for political campaigns. They accuse Kejriwal of orchestrating the excise policy, implicating him in a conspiracy involving kickbacks.

During the trial court hearing, senior advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi and others appeared for Kejriwal, while ASG SV Raju represented the probe agency. The ED asserts Kejriwal’s direct involvement in policy formulation and kickback schemes, leading to his arrest.
