Delhi HC Lifts Suspension on BJP MLAs: A Historic Verdict

BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht expressed gratitude to the Delhi High Court on Saturday for its decision to lift the suspension of seven MLAs from the Legislative Assembly. Bisht acknowledged the significance of this move, emphasizing, “The way we were removed from the Assembly was undoubtedly done to save the state government. The Delhi High Court has given this historic verdict.”

Bisht raised concerns about the motives behind their removal, suggesting it was a strategic move to stifle opposition against Arvind Kejriwal’s government. “We were removed so that we could not raise our voices against Arvind Kejriwal. We will tell the government that it is a matter of concern as they have reduced the budget,” he conveyed while speaking to ANI.

Delhi HC Lifts Suspension:Promises of Advocacy for Development

Highlighting the alleged lack of development in Delhi, the BJP MLA pledged to address critical issues such as water problems and other development-related concerns in the assembly. The suspension, according to him, aimed to hinder their role in advocating for the people.

Delhi HC Lifts Suspension:High Court’s Unprecedented Decision

The Delhi High Court, in a significant move, set aside the suspension of the seven BJP MLAs from the Delhi Legislative Assembly for an indefinite time. Justice Subramonium Prasad, while disposing of the petitions, noted that the punishment meted out to the petitioners exceeded what was permissible under Rule 44 of the Fifth Schedule. Simultaneously, he pointed out that the suspension under Rule 77 of Chapter XI was imposed for an indefinite period without affording the petitioners an opportunity to be heard.

This legal development comes after the Delhi High Court reserved its order on February 27 regarding the pleas of the seven BJP MLAs challenging their suspension from the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The MLAs were suspended on February 16, following a disturbance during an address by the LG in the Budget session of the Delhi Assembly on February 15.

Delhi HC Lifts Suspension:No End to the Political Turmoil

Despite the court’s intervention, the political turmoil persists as the suspended BJP MLAs, including Vijender Gupta, Ajay Kumar Mahavar, Abhay Verma, Anil Kumar Vajpayee, OP Sharma, Mohan Singh Bisht, and Jitendra Mahajan, continue to challenge the decisions impacting their legislative roles.
