Joint Operation SAGAR-MANTHAN 1: 5 Foreigners Arrested, 3,300 kg Drugs Seized in Indian Ocean
In a groundbreaking joint operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Indian Navy, and Gujarat Police have seized a record-breaking 3,300 kg of drugs in the Indian Ocean. The historic seizure includes 3,110 kg of “Charas and Hashish,” 158.3 kg of crystalline powder Meth, and 24.6 kg of suspected Heroin. Five foreign nationals have been arrested in connection with the massive offshore drug haul.
Joint Operation SAGAR-MANTHAN 1
This operation is part of “SAGAR-MANTHAN 1,” a series of maritime operations initiated by NCB in coordination with the Indian Navy. Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a drug-free India, the operation aims to counter the maritime trafficking of drugs in the Indian Ocean region. This success is hailed as the highest-ever offshore seizure in the country.
Joint Operation SAGAR-MANTHAN 1: Government’s Commitment and Congratulatory Messages
The Deputy Director General (Operations) of NCB, Gyaneshwar Singh, emphasized that the achievement is a testament to Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to a drug-free nation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated NCB, Navy, and Gujarat Police, recognizing the fight against drugs as crucial for the country’s security and future.
Operation Details and Inter-Agency Cooperation
Operation “SAGAR-MANTHAN” was led by Gyaneshwar Singh, involving officers from NCB, the Indian Navy, and Gujarat ATS. The operation was preceded by “Operation Samudragupta,” setting the stage for focused maritime actions. Information exchange, intelligence gathering, and technological interventions played a vital role in executing the successful operation.
Seizure and Arrests
NCB received credible information about a foreign fishing vessel carrying over 3,000 kilograms of narcotics substance. The joint team intercepted the vessel with the assistance of the Indian Navy, arresting five foreign nationals without identity documents. The seized drugs, packaging materials, and the vessel were towed to Porbandar for further action.
International Syndicate and Ongoing Investigation
The operation aims to dismantle the international syndicate involved in transnational drug trafficking. NCB is actively seeking cooperation from foreign Drug Law Enforcement Agencies for a comprehensive investigation. This successful inter-agency cooperation exemplifies the commitment to achieving the government’s goal of a drug-free India.
