Anurag Thakur Criticizes Arvind Kejriwal’s Alliance with Congress
Union Minister Anurag Thakur criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for forming an alliance with Congress, a party he had previously accused of corruption. Thakur called Kejriwal the “biggest liar” and highlighted the contradiction of joining hands with a party against which corruption charges were raised.
Thakur Accuses Kejriwal of Betraying Sankalp
Thakur accused Kejriwal of betraying his ‘Sankalp’ (pledge) to never ally with Congress and emphasized that many AAP leaders are in jail, prompting the Delhi CM to form an alliance with another party facing corruption allegations.
Seat-Sharing Negotiations Between AAP and Congress
AAP and Congress closed their seat-sharing negotiations for Delhi Lok Sabha seats on a 4:3 formula. Congress will contest three seats, while AAP will field candidates in four constituencies. The announcement followed a joint press conference of leaders from both parties.
Arvind Kejriwal Responds to Criticism
Arvind Kejriwal responded to the criticism, stating that the people of Delhi gave him a mandate to defeat the 15-year-old Sheila Dixit government. He welcomed the alliance, asserting that it provides an opportunity for Delhi residents to see there is no difference between AAP and Congress.
Seat-Sharing Pact in Multiple States
The seat-sharing pact extends beyond Delhi, covering Gujarat, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Goa. In Gujarat, Congress will contest 24 of 26 seats, leaving two for AAP. In Haryana, Congress will contest eight of nine seats, with AAP contesting one. Chandigarh will see a Congress candidate, and Goa’s two seats will be contested by Congress. Punjab will witness a ‘friendly fight’ as both parties are in opposition.
This alliance has implications for the political landscape, especially considering the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and the dynamics between AAP, Congress, and the broader INDIA bloc.
