Ex-MLC and Numerous Pahari Activists join BJP in Jammu
Dozens of Pahari activists, including a former Jammu and Kashmir MLC, made a significant move on Saturday as they joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expressing their commitment to fortify the party’s presence at the grassroots level. The BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit chief, Ravinder Raina, extended a warm welcome to the new members, the majority of whom were previously associated with the National Conference.
Former Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Syed Mohd Rafiq Shah, who had transitioned from the National Panthers Party to the National Conference in 2019, along with his supporters, officially became part of the BJP during a gathering at the party’s headquarters in Jammu.
Prominent Pahari Leaders Embrace BJP: Adding Strength to the Fold
The BJP’s appeal continues to grow as several influential Pahari leaders, including former minister Mushtaq Ahmad Shah Bukhari and former MLC Shahnaz Ganai, joined the party. This surge in affiliations followed the central government’s recent inclusion of four more communities, including the Pahari-speaking people, into the Scheduled Tribes list earlier this month.
Shah, a resident of the Trehgam area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, emphasized his conscious decision to align with the BJP, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to development, peace, and justice for deprived sections of society. As the chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Pahari Tribal Movement for over 25 years, Shah acknowledged the Modi government’s role in fulfilling their political, social, and economic rights.
Pahari Activists Continue to Rally Behind BJP: Recognition of Prime Minister Modi’s Works
In a separate gathering, dozens of Pahari activists led by prominent National Conference leader Mohd Ayub Pahalwan from Kotranka in Rajouri joined the BJP, further solidifying the party’s presence. BJP leader Ravinder Raina asserted that the inclusion of such political stalwarts in the party signifies approval for Prime Minister Modi’s initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir.
Raina reiterated the BJP’s open-door policy, emphasizing that the party welcomes individuals who aspire to contribute to public service. He assured the new entrants that their honor and position would be respected, empowering them to serve their communities more effectively. The move by Pahari activists to align with the BJP reflects a broader trend of evolving political dynamics in the region.
