Union Minister Jitendra Singh Champions JK Aroma Mission for ‘Viksit Bharat’; Focus on Youth Empowerment and Agri Startups
The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy, and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, declared that the “Aroma Mission” originating from Jammu and Kashmir will play a pivotal role in advancing “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).
Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted J&K as a role model for the rest of India during the Republic Day celebration, showcasing the lavender farms of Bhaderwah town in the Doda district. He commended the youth associated with the Aroma StartUp ecosystem, emphasizing their emergence as Purple Revolution brand ambassadors nationwide.
The Union Minister chaired a groundbreaking meeting with Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), including members from District Development Councils (DDCs), at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine in Jammu. The aim was to strengthen connections with society for promoting startups in the region.
Describing the Aroma Mission as a success story, Dr. Jitendra Singh urged investment of time and effort into unexplored or under-explored areas, which he believes hold the key to boosting India’s economy. He pointed out that agri startups are providing self-employment opportunities for the youth in the Union Territory.
Advocating for increased public-private partnerships in agri startups, Dr. Jitendra Singh stressed the importance of collaboration, stating that the era of silos is over. He called on DDC members to raise awareness about cultivating Himalayan resources like lavender, encouraging more youth in their areas to join agri startups and contribute to India’s GDP sustainably.
Dr. Jitendra Singh urged CSIR-IIIM to conduct research on the feasibility of cultivating new crops based on the topography of different regions in Jammu and Kashmir. Emphasizing the need to involve more people in the agri-startup ecosystem, he shared that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the number of startups in the country has surpassed 150,000 in the last decade.
In the space sector, Dr. Jitendra Singh revealed that over one thousand crore rupees were invested in the area in the previous eight months. He mentioned the government’s target of attracting over 40 billion dollars in investment by 2040 and highlighted the recent ADL (Arthur D Little) Report projecting India to reach 100 billion dollars by 2040.
Dr. Jitendra Singh concluded by noting the increase in space sector startups since Prime Minister Modi initiated reforms in the sector, positioning India as a leader in preventive healthcare worldwide due to its renowned vaccine program during the COVID-19 pandemic.
