Arvind Kejriwal Absent for Questioning in Delhi Liquor Policy Case
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal did not appear for questioning today in the Delhi liquor policy case, as communicated by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The party declared that the Enforcement Directorate’s summons were deemed unlawful and merely aimed at arresting Mr. Kejriwal. This marks the third instance of summons issued to Mr. Kejriwal, who also serves as the AAP’s national convenor, after his non-compliance with previous summonses on November 2 and December 21. AAP maintained that while Mr. Kejriwal was willing to cooperate with the agency, the summons appeared to be a pretext for his arrest.
The party alleged, “Why issue the notice just before elections? It seems to be a deliberate effort to hinder Kejriwal’s campaign during the elections.” Previously, Mr. Kejriwal was interrogated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) concerning the case in April, without being named as an accused by the agency.
Since the Enforcement Directorate’s initial summons, widespread speculation has arisen regarding the potential arrest of the Delhi Chief Minister following his interrogation. Multiple AAP leaders have echoed similar concerns through public statements.
Notably, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was apprehended in connection with the case in February, and AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was taken into custody in October.
