Amit Shah Chairs Security Meeting in J-k
On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah presided over a high-level security assessment meeting focused on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The primary agenda of the meeting was to evaluate the operational efficiency of the security grid and address various facets related to security concerns.
In light of recent attacks in the Union Territory, the Home Minister undertook a thorough review of the security landscape in Jammu and Kashmir. Emphasizing the importance of complete area dominance, Shah underscored the necessity for enhanced coordination among the Police, Army, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) deployed in the region.
During the meeting, the Home Minister stressed the imperative to fortify local intelligence capabilities within the Union Territory. The agenda included a comprehensive review of the area domination plan, the zero-terror plan, the prevailing law and order situation, cases related to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and other pertinent security-related matters.
Key attendees at the meeting included Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, National Investigation Agency DG Dinkar Gupta, and Director Generals of the Central Reserve Police Force and the Border Security Force. Various officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Jammu and Kashmir were also present.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Director Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, and Army Chief General Manoj Pande were among the high-ranking officials participating in the meeting.
The gathering took place in the aftermath of an encounter on December 21 last year, where four soldiers lost their lives and three others were injured after terrorists attacked two army vehicles in Rajouri’s Poonch region. The meeting aimed to address the escalating security challenges in the region, particularly given the previous incidents, such as the loss of five soldiers in November and ten soldiers in twin attacks in April and May 2023.
Sources within the security apparatus noted an increase in militancy in the Pir Panjal region, comprising Rajouri, Poonch, and parts of Reasi districts. Frequent encounters and ambushes by militants have led to the loss of several Army soldiers in the area.
This high-level review meeting echoed similar initiatives led by the Home Minister in the past, demonstrating the government’s commitment to a robust and decisive approach in combating terrorism. The continuous reinforcement of a 360-degree security mechanism underscores the government’s determination to eliminate the support and information systems of terrorists, as reiterated by the Home Minister in previous meetings.
