Eleven Arrested for Repeatedly Raping Jharkhand Girl in Visakhapatnam
In a distressing series of events, eleven men have been apprehended for their alleged involvement in the repeated rape of a girl from Jharkhand in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The disturbing incidents occurred on different occasions, the police reported on Monday.
The ordeal began when a migrant laborer from Jharkhand, who had developed a close association with the girl, purportedly lured her to a room under the guise of celebrating her birthday on December 17, 2023. According to an official, the laborer, accompanied by a friend, sexually assaulted the girl.
Subsequently, the traumatized victim attempted suicide at R K Beach in Visakhapatnam. However, a local photographer, engaging her in conversation, took her to a lodge and assaulted her. Later, in another room, eight to nine acquaintances of the photographer allegedly raped her.
Fleeing the city, the girl was reported missing, prompting her parents to lodge a complaint. She was eventually located in Odisha and brought back to Visakhapatnam on December 25. Investigations revealed that the photographer and his friends had subjected her to further assaults on December 20, 21, and 22. Authorities are also probing the possibility of additional assaults on December 18 and 19.
The police took swift action, altering the missing person case to a rape case under IPC Section 376 and invoked the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) in response to this distressing sequence of events. Deputy Commissioner of Police K Srinivas Rao conveyed the gravity of the situation, underscoring the immediate legal measures taken in this harrowing case.
