Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to embark on a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep on January 2 and 3, where he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several significant development projects. The Office of the Prime Minister detailed his itinerary, highlighting the vital initiatives to be undertaken during this visit.

On January 2, PM Modi will arrive in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, as the chief guest at Bharathidasan University’s 38th Convocation Ceremony. These projects encompass aviation, rail, road, oil and gas, shipping, and higher education sectors.

The prime minister is scheduled to inaugurate the New Terminal Building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport, built at a cost exceeding Rs 1,100 crore. This two-level terminal is equipped to cater to over 44 lakh passengers annually and accommodate around 3,500 passengers during peak hours.

PM Modi will also inaugurate railway projects aimed at enhancing freight and passenger rail capacity, such as the doubling of the rail line section covering 160 Km from Madurai to Tuticorin, along with three rail line electrification projects.

Moreover, he will inaugurate five road sector projects, focusing on facilitating safer and faster travel within the region, strengthening connectivity among industrial and commercial centers.

In addition, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for road development initiatives, including the construction of a 31-km long four-lane road from Mugaiyur to Marakkanam, connecting ports on the East Coast of Tamil Nadu and providing better connectivity to vital sites.

Further emphasizing the development in the region, the prime minister will dedicate the General Cargo Berth-II (Automobile Export/Import Terminal-II & Capital Dredging Phase-V) of Kamarajar Port, marking significant progress in maritime infrastructure.

Notably, PM Modi will also dedicate various petroleum and natural gas projects, fostering the fulfillment of energy requirements for industrial, domestic, and commercial sectors in the region. Among these projects is the Demonstration Fast Reactor Fuel Reprocessing Plant at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research Kalpakkam, designed indigenously and a significant stride in the field.

Continuing his visit, on January 3, PM Modi will proceed to Lakshadweep, laying the foundation stone for projects surpassing Rs 1,150 crore. The highlight of his Lakshadweep visit will be the inauguration of the Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Connection (KLI-SOFC) project.
