Nitish Kumar Remains Our Supreme Leader, Asserts JDU President Lalan Singh amid Resignation Reports
The Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) has dismissed all reports hinting at a possible change in party leadership before its forthcoming national executive session. Party President Rajeev Ranjan (Lalan Singh) clarified that the meeting was a routine gathering and emphasized Nitish Kumar’s steadfast leadership within the JD(U).
Ahead of the national executive and council meetings convened in Delhi on Friday by Lalan Singh, speculation was rife about a potential handover of leadership to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Responding to these reports, JD(U) leader KC Tyagi refuted the rumors and emphasized the scheduled two-day meetings. He highlighted a meeting of office bearers and outlined the program for the national executive and council sessions. Tyagi stated that any decisions regarding leadership changes would be communicated later.
Amidst questions regarding internal party shifts in anticipation of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Tyagi maintained that such matters remained internal and were not publicly addressed.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, before departing for the national meeting, reiterated that the gathering was part of the party’s annual tradition and held no extraordinary significance. He emphasized its regular occurrence and termed it as a routine affair.
Contrary to these speculations, Bihar’s ruling coalition firmly denied any looming changes in power dynamics in the state. BJP leader Giriraj Singh mentioned a purported shift in Bihar’s governance, alleging a forthcoming change and indicating the ascent of an RJD leader to the chief ministerial post.
The national meeting assumes significance as the JD(U) is part of the INDIA alliance and prepares for discussions with the Congress regarding alliance arrangements for the state. As various voices within the JD(U) support Nitish Kumar to lead the INDIA alliance, the recent endorsements by Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal for Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge as a potential Prime Ministerial candidate add complexity to the political landscape.
Moreover, posters endorsing Nitish Kumar’s national recognition have been displayed at the venue, emphasizing his leadership beyond Bihar’s boundaries.
