GDC Kilhotran Stages Peaceful Pen Down Protest Demanding Release of Withheld Salaries.

On the 20th of September 2023, the teaching and non-teaching staff members of GDC Kilhotran, along with their colleagues from colleges across the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, rallied together in a peaceful protest in response to a call made by the College Teachers Association (CTA) Jammu wing. This demonstration aimed to voice their concerns regarding the ongoing withholding of their salaries, a situation they attribute to the District Development Commissioner Doda’s intervention over the past two months.

Protesting Against Unjust Salary Holdback

The staff members at GDC Kilhotran emphasized their unwavering commitment and diligence in delivering their services, underpinned by their consistent attendance records on the Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS), a government-mandated system adopted across all departments in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. This system is closely monitored by the Higher Education Department, UT of J & K.

Opposition to Additional Attendance System

In a controversial move, the District Administration Doda has imposed the requirement for staff in all colleges of District Doda to register their attendance through the Adhbut Doda App in addition to the AEBAS. This added requirement has raised concerns among staff members, who fear a shrinking democratic space for free education and intellectual discourse, as well as the psychological stress and loss of valuable time associated with the implementation of the ADHBUT Doda App.

Demand for Equal Application of Government Orders

The protesting staff members are demanding equal treatment under government orders related to attendance marking, asserting that these orders should apply uniformly to all colleges in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir without any regional discrimination.

In unison, the staff members of GDC Kilhotran registered their peaceful protest against what they perceive as harassment by the District Administration Doda. They urgently called for the release of their withheld salaries and unanimously rejected the idea of marking their attendance using the ADHBUT Doda App, as they already adhere to the AEBAS system as mandated by the General Administration Department and Higher Education Department of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir.
