Jaishankar Set for Crucial Talks in Russia Strengthening Bilateral Ties
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to embark on a visit to Russia from December 25 to December 29, marking an essential diplomatic mission. His agenda includes meetings with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, as highlighted by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a press release.
The key focus of Jaishankar’s meeting with Russian officials, particularly Deputy PM Denis Manturov, will revolve around economic engagements between the two countries. Additionally, discussions with counterpart Sergey Lavrov will encompass a broad spectrum, spanning bilateral, multilateral, and global issues.
The minister’s itinerary spans across Moscow and St Petersburg, emphasizing the depth of the Indo-Russian relationship. According to the MEA, the alliance between the two nations remains resilient, emphasizing the unique and privileged nature of their strategic partnership.
Highlighting the enduring cultural and people-to-people connections, the MEA underscored the importance of fostering these ties between India and Russia.
Jaishankar previously acknowledged the significance of India-Russia ties, emphasizing their exceptional steadiness over time. In his remarks at Hudson University, he contrasted these relations with the more volatile dynamics seen in Russia’s engagements with other major world powers, including the US, China, and Europe.
While acknowledging that the India-Russia relationship may not have exhibited the same level of spectacle seen in other international ties, Jaishankar reiterated the stability and consistency characterizing their partnership.
Furthermore, he indicated Russia’s inclination towards expanding its focus on the non-Western world, particularly Asia, in light of evolving global dynamics, implying a deeper engagement with India and other Asian nations in the foreseeable future.
