**Seven-Day-Long Encounter**
A week-long encounter between terrorists and security forces in the Garole forests of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district has concluded with the killing of at least two terrorists, including Lashkar e Taiba commander Uzair Khan. The operation, which spanned seven days, resulted in the loss of four security personnel’s lives.
**Lashkar e Taiba Commander Uzair Khan**
Uzair Khan, the Lashkar e Taiba commander, was among the terrorists killed in the operation. Khan, a resident of Nagam in Anantnag, had gone missing in July 2022, and his family was later informed of his association with the terrorist organization. Before his disappearance, Khan had worked as an electrician, holding a diploma in electrical work.
**Ongoing Search Operation**
While Uzair Khan’s body has been retrieved, the body of the second terrorist remains visible but unretrieved. Authorities continue their search operation in the dense Garole forest area in Kokernag to locate and destroy explosive shells and grenades. The area has the potential presence of a third terrorist, and caution is advised for those visiting the site due to the risk of live shells and grenades.
**Security Personnel Sacrifices**
The operation resulted in the loss of four security personnel, including Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Aashish Dhonchak, DSP Humayun Muzamil Bhat, and sepoy Pardeep Singh. Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha paid tribute to sepoy Pardeep Singh and expressed gratitude for his sacrifice.
**Intensive Operation**
The operation involved some of the army’s most skilled fighters, including Special Forces and counterterrorism specialists from the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Security forces used various tactics, including firing mortar shells and grenades, conducting drone and helicopter surveillance, and targeting suspected terrorist hideouts in the forested area.This major operation underscores the ongoing challenges and security efforts in the region to combat terrorism and maintain peace.
