18th G20 Summit Kicks Off in Delhi

Delhi is set to host the 18th G20 Summit with leaders and officials from more than 30 countries and international organizations in attendance.

The summit, taking place on September 9-10, will focus on key themes, including climate action and the interconnectedness of all life on Earth.

The event kicks off with world leaders arriving at the Bharat Mandapam venue, followed by the first session, “One Earth,” which emphasizes accelerating climate action and achieving global net-zero emissions. Another session, “One Family,” will take place in the afternoon, and the President of India will host a dinner for delegates in the evening.

Key leaders attending the summit include US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

Notably, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be in attendance; China will be represented by Premier Li Qiang, and Russia by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

India, hosting the G20 Summit for the first time, aims to achieve the inclusion of the African Union as a member of the G20 and resolve disagreements over a joint statement related to the Ukraine conflict.

During its presidency, India has focused on inclusive growth, digital innovation, climate resilience, and global health access. The summit will include discussions with leaders from countries such as Nigeria, Argentina, Italy, South Africa, the UK, Japan, and more, as well as international organizations like the United Nations and the OECD.
