
18th G20 Summit Kicks Off in New Delhi: A Global Gathering with a Vision.
Global Leaders Converge in New Delhi.
As the national capital of India prepares to host the 18th G20 Summit, it becomes the epicenter of international diplomacy. This two-day event, held at the newly inaugurated Bharat Mandapam, is attended by more than 30 heads of state, top officials from the European Union, invited guest countries, and 14 heads of international organizations. The world leaders started arriving at the venue at 9.30 am, marking the beginning of a momentous gathering.
One Earth: Paving the Way for Climate Action.
At 10.30 am, the first session, ‘One Earth,’ will commence, putting climate change at the forefront. Under the theme “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (One Earth – One Family – One Future), this session emphasizes accelerating climate action and achieving global net zero emissions as quickly as possible. This theme underscores the interconnectedness of all life forms on Earth, reinforcing the importance of environmental stewardship.
One Family: Strengthening Global Ties.
Following a productive discussion on climate action, the leaders will break for lunch and then reconvene at 3.00 pm for the ‘One Family’ session. This session aims to strengthen global ties and foster collaboration among nations. In the evening, President Droupadi Murmu will host a dinner, attended by foreign delegates, parliamentarians, ministers, and former senior leaders.
Notable Absences: Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin are notably absent from the summit. Instead, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will represent their respective countries. This unique situation underscores the significance of this G20 Summit as the first hosted by India.India’s presidency focuses on key issues like inclusive growth, digital innovation, climate resilience, and equitable global health access. By leveraging its leadership role, India aims to foster collaborative solutions that benefit its population and contribute to global well-being.
The G20 Summit brings together diverse countries, including Nigeria, Argentina, Italy, the African Union, South Africa, Bangladesh, the United Kingdom, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Korea, Egypt, Australia, the United States, Canada, China, the UAE, Brazil, Indonesia, Turkey, Spain, Germany, France, Mauritius, the European Union, and Singapore. This gathering symbolizes a united effort to address global challenges and chart a new path for human-centric and inclusive development.World leaders were welcomed with traditional dance performances, setting a cultural tone for this momentous event. As New Delhi plays host to these global dignitaries, it is poised to make history by fostering collaboration and addressing pressing global issues.
