Tragedy Strikes Rajasthan as Rain-Related Incidents Claim Ten Lives.

Jaipur: Ten people have tragically lost their lives in Rajasthan due to rain-related incidents since Sunday, as heavy downpours continue to wreak havoc in parts of the state. The situation remains grim, with the North Western Railway taking precautionary measures and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) providing updates on the ongoing weather conditions.

Heavy Rainfall Claims Lives Across Rajasthan

On Sunday, eight fatalities were reported in various incidents in Banswara, while one death each occurred in Bikaner and Udaipur, according to officials. These incidents underscore the severe consequences of the relentless monsoon rains.

Railway Services Disrupted, IMD Predicts Ongoing Rain

The North Western Railway had to cancel two trains and partially cancel eight others due to the water level at a bridge between Bharuch and Ankleshwar in neighboring Gujarat being above the danger mark. Meanwhile, the IMD warns that heavy showers are likely to persist in some parts of Barmer, Jalore, and Jaisalmer on September 19, while other regions may experience a reduction in rainfall.

Recorded Rainfall Figures Raise Concerns

The IMD reports that several parts of Rajasthan have witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall, with Nithuva in Dungarpur receiving a staggering 21 cm of rain and Pratapgarh recording 16 cm. This deluge continued, with 200 mm of rainfall in Sadri (Pali), 160 mm in Pratapgarh, 130 mm in Mount Abu (Sirohi), 124 mm in Jhalra (Udaipur), 122 mm in Kot (Pali), 120 mm in Bhangra (Banswara), and 118 mm in Bankli (Pali).

Banswara Bears the Brunt

Banswara, where the release of water from the Mahi dam has resulted in a flood-like situation, has witnessed the highest number of casualties. District Collector Prakash Chandra Sharma reported that Swaroopi (60) and Santu Tabiyar (68) lost their lives when their huts collapsed. Shilpa Patel and Devla Maida were washed away in the floods, while Sugana Labana (48) succumbed to a wall collapse. Kala Katara (50), Amar Singh Damor, and Dinesh Garasia (45) were swept away in flooded drains in separate incidents. In Bikaner, a 75-year-old man died when a house wall collapsed in Gungaran locality, and Babli Devi met a similar fate due to a wall collapse in Kherwada, Udaipur.

Hope on the Horizon

Despite the ongoing challenges, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon. The IMD suggests that the state may see relief from heavy rains starting on September 20. An IMD official noted that the low-pressure area over southeastern Rajasthan weakened into a circulation system on Monday, now situated over southern Rajasthan. As this system gradually moves towards southwestern Rajasthan on September 19, heavy rain activities are expected to continue in some parts of Barmer, Jalore, and Jaisalmer, with a possibility of reduced rainfall in other areas. Relief from heavy rains is anticipated in the state from September 20 onwards, offering some respite to the affected regions.
