Today in Rajya Sabha: Amit Shah to Present Two Jammu and Kashmir Bills during Parliament’s Winter Session

New Delhi: The eighth day of the Parliment’s Winter Session is expected to see few significant businesses in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, as Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be introducing the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in Rajya Sabha today afternoon.

Earlier, the bill was passed in the Lok Sabha. Apart from that house is expected to see the laying of reports of Standing Committee on Water Resources, and ‘Demands for Grants (2023-24)’ of the Ministry of Jal Shakti – Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation will be made by Guman Singh Damor.

On Friday, Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha after a discussion on the report of the Ethics Committee in the ‘cash for query’ that was tabled in the Lower House. Here are the Highlights on Winter Session of Parliament:

BJP Raises Cash Seized Issue From Company Linked To Congress MPBJP members in the Lok Sabha on Monday raked up the issue of recovery of a huge amount of cash from a distillery company linked to Congress’ Jharkhand Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Prasad Sahu.

Sanjay Seth, the BJP member from Ranchi, raised the issue during the Zero Hour, seeking a reply from the Congress.

Several other BJP MPs sitting next to him displayed newspapers with reports of the recovery of cash to drive home their point.

Rajendra Agrawal, who was chairing the proceedings, urged members not to name the Rajya Sabha member and asked them to put down the newspapers.

Mr Seth also read out a purported tweet of Sahu in which he had claimed that only Congress can get rid of corruption.

The House witnessed a war of words between BJP and Congress members on the issue. The Congress has already distanced itself from the issue.

INDIA Bloc Walkout Over ‘Economic Blockade’ of Opposition-Ruled StatesMPs from various parties of the INDIA bloc staged a walkout in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, alleging a “blockade” of funds to opposition-ruled states.

The MPs from the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Samajwadi Party (SP), Janata Dal (United), DMK, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), among others, staged the walkout.

“All opposition parties walked out of the Rajya Sabha this morning, protesting against the Union government’s economic blockade of funds to states run by non-BJP parties,” TMC MP Derek O’Brien said.
