S Jaishankar’s Vision of ‘Bharat’, India’s Post-Pandemic Resilience, and Business’s Expanded Role
During the 96th Annual General Meeting of FICCI, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar shared his profound interpretation of ‘Bharat,’ defining it as more than a geographical entity; it embodies a belief system and attitude, encompassing economic, political, cultural, and social dimensions.
He emphasized the need for self-definition and self-assertion, reflecting centuries of the nation’s identity and values.
Highlighting India’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jaishankar commended the country’s resilience and ability to emerge robustly from the crisis.
He praised India’s response compared to other nations and underscored the nation’s strength in effectively managing and rebounding from the pandemic.
Expressing his views on the contemporary global landscape, Jaishankar emphasized the shift towards multipolarity, highlighting the challenges arising from greater insecurity and increased protectionism.
He stressed the importance of navigating this evolving global scenario and underscored the consequences of unfair competition and manipulated trading rules in shaping the current global dynamics.
Jaishankar extended the role of businesses beyond commerce, portraying them as pioneers of modernity and progress.
He attributed the growth of the economy, industry, services, and technological advancements to the ideas and projects initiated by the business community, ultimately propelling India’s advancement.
Furthermore, he urged for a focus on building deep domestic strengths and achieving self-reliance, aligning with the idea of fortifying the nation’s foundation.
Stressing the responsibility of business leaders in contributing to national strength, Jaishankar underscored the importance of cultivating robust internal capacities similar to other admired economies.
