Rajnath Singh Assesses Cyclone Michaung Damage: Aerial Survey and Talks with Tamil Nadu CM

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conducted an aerial survey of areas in Tamil Nadu affected by Cyclone Michaung. The minister held discussions with Chief Minister MK Stalin to assess the damage caused by the cyclone. Authorities from the National Disaster Management Authority, Police, Navy, and other agencies were present during the meeting, where they briefed the Defence Minister on the cyclone’s impact and the relief required from the Centre.

Aerial Survey and Assessment: Union Minister Takes Stock of Flood Situation

Earlier in the day, Rajnath Singh shared on X, “Leaving New Delhi for Chennai to assess the flood situation caused due to ‘Michaung’ Cyclone in Tamil Nadu. Shall conduct an aerial survey of the affected areas and also review the situation with the State Government.” The Defence Minister was accompanied by Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L Murugan, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, and the state’s chief secretary during the aerial survey.

Central Government Releases Relief Funds: Advance Instalment for Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu

The Central government released in advance the second instalment of the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) to Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Andhra Pradesh received Rs 493.60 crore, while Tamil Nadu received Rs 450 crore. Both states were affected by cyclonic storm Michaung.

Several areas in Chennai continued to experience severe waterlogging due to heavy rainfall following Cyclone Michaung’s landfall. The city faced challenges, including inundated locations and disruptions to transportation services. Schools and colleges in affected districts announced a holiday, and relief efforts, including an aerial survey by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, are underway.
