Joint Endeavors in Space Exploration
In a historic meeting between US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, both nations celebrated India’s remarkable achievements in space exploration. President Biden extended his congratulations not only to Prime Minister Modi but also to the scientists and engineers of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for Chandrayaan-3’s successful landing at the Moon’s South polar region and the triumphant launch of India’s inaugural solar mission, Aditya-L1.
Working Group for Commercial Space Collaboration
Setting the stage for new frontiers in space collaboration, both leaders enthusiastically endorsed the establishment of a Working Group for commercial space cooperation within the existing India-US Civil Space Joint Working Group. This initiative marks a significant step towards closer ties and deeper cooperation in space exploration.
Joint Effort to the International Space Station (ISS)
Prime Minister Modi and President Biden emphasized their unwavering commitment to advancing their partnership in outer space exploration. To this end, ISRO and NASA have initiated discussions on various aspects, including capacity building and training, to mount a joint mission to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2024. Furthermore, they are actively working to finalize a strategic framework for cooperation in human spaceflight by the end of 2023. These collaborative efforts signify a remarkable milestone in international space exploration.
Planetary Defense Coordination
Recognizing the importance of planetary defense and safeguarding Earth and space assets from the potential impact of asteroids and near-Earth objects, both nations intend to enhance their coordination in this critical area. The United States will offer its support for India’s involvement in asteroid detection and tracking via the Minor Planet Center, reinforcing the joint commitment to planetary defense.
Bilateral Meeting for Deepening Ties
The bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Biden, which took place in New Delhi at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, covered a wide range of issues with a focus on strengthening bilateral relations. Both leaders expressed their optimism about the significant role that the enduring friendship between India and the United States will continue to play in promoting global welfare.
G20 Summit in New Delhi
The 18th G20 Summit is currently underway at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre in New Delhi on September 9th and 10th. The summit will conclude with the adoption of a Leaders Declaration, addressing various global challenges and collaborative efforts to address them.
