Ashok Gehlot Resigns Following Congress Defeat in Rajasthan
Ashok Gehlot, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, resigned from his post after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a decisive victory in the state’s assembly elections. Following the stabilization of counting trends, Gehlot visited Governor Kalraj Mishra to officially submit his resignation. BJP, with a lead in 115 seats, comfortably surpassed the majority mark of 100, while Congress trailed with 70 seats.
Gehlot’s Reaction to the Defeat
Acknowledging the election results as “shocking,” Gehlot admitted that the Congress party failed to effectively communicate its policies and governance achievements to the public. He extended best wishes to the incoming government and advised them to continue and enhance initiatives like the Old Pension Scheme. Gehlot also mentioned that the Congress party would introspect to understand the reasons behind their electoral defeat.
Internal Party Dynamics and Election Impact
The ongoing internal conflict within the Congress party, especially between Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot, is viewed as a significant factor in the party’s loss. Despite their efforts to showcase unity during the election campaign, the internal tensions seemingly affected the party’s overall performance.
Gehlot expressed his expectation of a Congress victory based on the party’s policies and schemes but acknowledged the public’s decision. He affirmed his commitment to continue serving the people, regardless of holding an official position.
