
1 Killed, 13 Injured in Shooting at Teotihuacan Site in Mexico
MEXICO, Apr 21 (VoM News): At least 13 persons were injured and a Canadian woman lost her life after a shooting incident took place at the historic Teotihuacan complex near the Pyramid of the Moon in Mexico on Monday, authorities said.
As per officials, the gunman opened fire at the crowded tourist site, and his identity is not yet known. After firing at the tourist site, the gunman also took his own life, officials said.
Reports reveal that among the injured, six people sustained gunshot wounds and were treated at nearby hospitals, including tourists from Canada, Colombia, Brazil, and the United States.
While seven others suffered injuries in the panic that followed and were treated at the scene.
The attack site—the Pyramid of the Moon—is a major attraction within the complex, prompting authorities to evacuate visitors and secure the area.
From the site, security personnel recovered a firearm, a knife, and ammunition, which are now part of the investigation.
Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand described the incident as a horrific act of gun violence.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also called for a thorough investigation and directed officials to assist those affected.
As Mexico is set to co-host the FIFA World Cup 2026, this attack has raised serious concerns over the safety of tourists in the region.
Millions of tourists visit this site annually. Teotihuacan, one of the country’s most visited archaeological destinations, has faced its first such horrific attack in history.
