Indian Railways Registers Substantial Freight Loading Growth

The Indian Railways has recorded a notable increase in freight loading, reaching 1015.669 million tonnes (MT) from April to November 2023. This marks an improvement of approximately 36.945 MT compared to the same period last year, as per the official statement from the Ministry of Railways.

    Revenue Growth and Monthly Performance

The revenue earned by the Railways in this period amounted to ₹110007.5 crore, showing an increase of about ₹4102.445 crore compared to last year. Specifically, in November 2023, the Railways achieved a freight loading of 128.419 MT, a 4.33% increase from November 2022. This resulted in a freight revenue of ₹14077.94 crores for the month, up by 3.82% from the previous year.

    Diverse Cargo and Strategic Initiatives

The diverse range of cargo loaded in November 2023 includes coal, iron ore, steel, cement, clinker, food grains, fertilizers, mineral oil, containers, and other goods. The Indian Railways attributes this achievement to its customer-centric approach, efficient business development units, and agile policymaking under the mantra ‘Hungry For Cargo’. These efforts have enhanced service delivery and the ease of doing business, contributing to the Railways’ significant performance improvement.
