Under the theme of building a prosperous, empowered, and resilient Pakistan, MQM-P Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui aimed to forge unity among political parties, emphasizing collaboration between religious and political factions.

Senior Deputy Convener Mustafa Kamal exuded optimism, foreseeing an end to challenging times. Kamal advocated for constitutional amendments to delineate the powers of local governments clearly. Presenting three key proposals, he underscored the necessity of worker representation, decentralization of resources, and the pivotal role of local government in the country’s progress.
Shaping the Future: Responses, Visions, and Unity
Former Karachi mayor and Senior Deputy Convener Dr. Farooq Sattar urged a paradigm shift, emphasizing the deceptive nature of provincial autonomy over the past 15 years. Stressing the critical role of empowered local governments, Sattar called for constitutional clauses ensuring decentralization of power and resources to the district level.
Former federal law minister and Senator Farogh Naseem shed light on challenges faced in the Supreme Court, advocating for new legislation to align Pakistan with global standards.
Leaders from various political parties shared their perspectives on empowering local governments, acknowledging the pivotal role in true development and progress. Journalist Mazhar Abbas lauded MQM’s efforts as a turning point in the political history of the country, while writer Khawar Mehdi underscored that democracy remains incomplete without empowering local governments.
