NZ vs IND 5th T20I 2026 LIVE Updates: New Zealand opt to bowl
HAMILTON, November 1, 2026 (VoM News): New Zealand won the toss and elected to field first against India in the fifth T20 International of the series in Hamilton on Sunday.
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner opted to bowl, with the hosts making their decision after assessing the conditions at the venue. India will bat first and look to put up a competitive total.
New Zealand have included Tim Seifert, Finn Allen, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Bevon Jacobs, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, Nathan Smith, Adam Milne, Jacob Duffy and Blair Tickner in their playing XI.
India’s line-up features Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Naman Dhir, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy. Iyer is leading the Indian side, while Kishan will keep wickets.
During the pitch report, Katey Martin and Scott Styris described the surface as batting-friendly, with limited sideways movement expected. They noted that Hamilton’s ground has relatively short boundaries, measuring approximately 68 metres straight and 60 to 63 metres square.
The commentators said the new ball could produce some tennis-ball-like bounce initially before the surface settles. Humidity was expected to be lower than usual, potentially reducing swing for the seamers.
The conditions could favour batters, although bowlers may find opportunities during the opening overs.
