Farooq Abdullah Appoints Mubarak Gul NC General Secretary After Cabinet Exclusion, MLA Majid Larmi Turns Emotional
SRINAGAR, October 27, 2026 (VoM News): National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah has appointed senior party leader Mubarak Gul as the organisation’s General Secretary, minutes after Gul expressed disappointment over being excluded from the Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet expansion, party sources said.
So far, VoM News have no reports whether he accepted the position or not, as his supporters are demanding the resignation by lodging a protest against the decision to not include Mubarak Gul in xnew cabinet team.
Earlier, Gul had voiced his displeasure after four NC legislators were inducted into Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s Council of Ministers on Tuesday.
He reportedly said he had attended around 30 swearing-in ceremonies but had been left out of the Cabinet on every occasion.
The appointment comes amid discontent among some senior party leaders who were not accommodated in the latest reshuffle.
Meanwhile, NC MLA Abdul Majeed Larvi also questioned his exclusion, saying he had expected a ministerial berth based on his seniority, loyalty and long association with the party.
Speaking to reporters outside Lok Bhavan in Srinagar, the Anantnag West legislator said he could not understand why his name had not been considered despite believing he was among the leading contenders.
Larvi also questioned the induction of Altaf Ahmad Kalloo, describing him as junior to him within the party.
However, he said he would continue working for the National Conference despite his disappointment.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha administered the oath of office and secrecy to Ali Mohammad Sagar, Shameema Firdous, Mir Saifullah and Altaf Ahmad Kalloo during Tuesday’s ceremony.
The expansion brought the Council of Ministers to its maximum permissible strength of nine members.
