Uttarakhand Government Advances Green Energy Goals with Five Solar Power Plants
Uttarakhand’s commitment to green energy took a significant stride forward as the state government approved five solar power plants with a total capacity of 5,265 kilowatts under the Chief Minister Solar Self-Employment Scheme. The scheme aims to encourage self-employment and promote clean energy generation in the state.
Empowering Green Energy in Uttarakhand
The Uttarakhand State Solar Policy-2023 sets the stage for initiatives like the Chief Minister Solar Self-Employment Scheme. Under the state’s solar policy, proposals for Type-II category projects were invited by the Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA). As a result, the State Level Monitoring Committee, chaired by Energy and Alternative Energy Secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram, has approved five proposals with a combined capacity of 5,265 kilowatts.
Significant Investment and Promotion of Green Energy
These solar projects represent a substantial investment of approximately Rs 24 crore in the field of solar energy within Uttarakhand. Moreover, they align with the government’s overarching goal of fostering green energy production. These initiatives not only contribute to clean energy but also encourage further investment in sustainable practices.
Multifaceted Approach to Green Energy
The Uttarakhand government adopts a multifaceted approach to boost green energy within the state. In addition to the Chief Minister Solar Self-Employment Scheme, rooftop solar power plants are being established for domestic consumers through the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited. These projects receive additional subsidies from both the Central Government and the State Government. This approach promotes the widespread adoption of renewable energy sources and paves the way for a more sustainable future.
As Uttarakhand advances its green energy agenda, these solar power plants are vital steps in achieving a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable energy landscape for the state. The projects represent a significant stride towards energy self-sufficiency and reduced carbon emissions.
