New Railway Line to Connect Jajpur Road-Keonjhar and Dhamra via Jajpur and Aradi
The Indian government has approved a final location survey (FLS) for the construction of a new railway line connecting Jajpur Road-Keonjhar and Dhamra via Jajpur and Aradi in Odisha. An initial allocation of Rs 2.4 crore has been made for the study. The 96 km railway line has been a long-standing demand, and it is expected to enhance connectivity and promote tourism in the region.
Connecting Religious and Tourist Destinations
The new railway line will connect significant religious and tourist destinations in Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Kendrapara districts. It will provide direct access to the Maa Biraja temple, one of the oldest Shakti peethas in the country, and the famous Shaivite shrine of Baba Akhandalamani at Aradi through Jajpur town. Additionally, other destinations in the region will become easily accessible by rail.
Economic and Industrial Impact
The railway line is expected to have a significant economic impact by facilitating efficient transportation and connectivity. It will help decongest the Howrah-Chennai trunk route by transporting export-bound iron ore traffic from the Kenojhar-Bansapani-Joda area to Dhamra port. Moreover, it will serve as an alternative route connecting various industrial units in Kalinga Nagar to Dhamra port without using the trunk route.
The project aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for ‘purvoday’ (eastern development). Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has also expressed support for the proposed new line during his visit to Jajpur and Bhadrak. The final survey will provide essential insights into the project’s viability, paving the way for its future implementation.
