Massive Landslide Hits Jorabat Along Assam-Meghalaya Border, No Casualties Reported

JORABAT, Oct 2, 2026 [VoM News]: A massive landslide struck Ten Mile in Jorabat along the Assam-Meghalaya border on Friday, sending a large volume of earth, rocks and debris crashing onto the premises of a fuel station.

A substantial portion of the hillside behind the fuel station collapsed, with debris covering nearly half of the premises. Videos circulating on social media showed the scale of the landslide and damage at the site.

Two vehicles parked at the fuel station were reportedly struck by the debris and sustained minor damage. No casualties have been reported so far.

The sudden landslide triggered panic in the area, which lies along a busy stretch connecting Assam and Meghalaya.

Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage and examining the remaining hillside for possible further soil movement.

The Jorabat stretch has several hill-cut areas and has previously faced landslide risks, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall. Further details are awaited.
