PM Modi Meets Egypt President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi During BRICS Summit 2026 in Delhi

New Delhi, September 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held a bilateral meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit being hosted by India in New Delhi.

El-Sisi is in the national capital to participate in the BRICS Summit under India’s chairship. India and Egypt share longstanding relations, with diplomatic ties at the ambassadorial level dating back to August 18, 1947.

The meeting comes as both countries continue to engage through the BRICS platform. Egypt became a full member of the grouping in January 2024, along with Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Earlier this year, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty visited India for the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in May and held bilateral discussions on the sidelines. Egyptian Justice Minister Mahmoud El-Sherif also attended the BRICS Justice Ministers’ Meeting and met Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.

During the summit, El-Sisi also met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday. According to Russia’s Foreign Ministry, Putin highlighted the continued development of relations between Moscow and Cairo, including growth in bilateral trade, and invited El-Sisi to attend the upcoming Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow in October.

On Sunday, BRICS leaders discussed resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability and their role in promoting inclusive global growth.

PM Modi said the trust of Global South nations in BRICS has increased and stressed greater participation from entrepreneurs, farmers, researchers, women and youth.
