BREAKING: Jet Fuel Prices Hiked 5.46% in India

NEW DELHI: Commercial aircraft operators are facing rising costs as the aviation turbine fuel (ATF), or flight fuel, price for them has increased for the second consecutive month, becoming costlier by Rs 6.28 per litre from September 1.

The price of aviation fuel has been increased by 5.46% by the state-run fuel retailers to Rs 121.28 per litre from September 1, from Rs 115 a litre earlier.

This marks the second straight month where flight fuel has become more expensive for airlines. Earlier on August 1, flight fuel prices were raised by approximately Rs 5 a litre. This came after a month, in July, when the price of flight fuel was lowered by Rs 5 a litre.

Higher flight fuel costs are expected to further impact India’s commercial airlines, as ATF accounts for as much as 40% of their total operating expenses.

While this price increase in flight fuel is expected to increase airline operating costs and may affect airfares in future, ticket prices depend on various factors including demand, competition and availability of seats.

The recent price jump comes as global crude oil prices witness an upward trend and volatile conditions in world energy markets continue.
