Delhi Metro to Add 20 Extra Train Trips to Combat Pollution

In response to worsening air quality in Delhi and the implementation of Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), Delhi Metro will add 20 extra train trips across its network starting from November 3. This move is aimed at encouraging more people to use public transport in Delhi and neighboring cities. The GRAP-III stage involves restrictions on non-essential construction work and the entry of diesel-guzzling trucks into the capital as the air quality has reached the ‘severe’ category.

    Boosting Public Transport

To combat the deteriorating air quality, the Delhi Metro has been running additional train trips since October 25, following the implementation of GRAP-II. With the addition of these 20 extra trips, the Delhi Metro will now run a total of 60 additional trips to promote the use of public transport in the Delhi-NCR region.

    Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)

The GRAP is a comprehensive strategy to address air pollution and its various stages are determined by the Air Quality Index (AQI). Stage III, which has now been implemented, involves stringent measures to control pollution, including a halt on most construction and demolition work except for essential government projects, mining, and stone crushing.
