1 killed, 1 critical after flyover section caves in at Samba, Jammu Kashmir

Samba, August 26, 2026 [VoM News]: One labourer was killed and another was critically injured when a section of an under-construction flyover collapsed in Jakh in Samba district of Jammu Kashmir on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred around 10 am while work was underway on the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway. Sources said a precast segment, while being installed with a launching girder, collapsed, trapping the two workers present below at the site.

The injured worker was immediately rushed to a hospital and is undergoing treatment. His condition has been described as critical.

“I was sitting in a nearby shop when a portion of the flyover fell down. It was quite a loud sound, I rushed out along with others,” an eyewitness said. Panic spread in the area following the incident.

Top officials of the Samba district administration rushed to the spot and oversaw the rescue and inspection operations. Officials stated that the deceased worker’s family would be provided compensation.

The cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained, but an official said it would be investigated thoroughly. He added that the priority was the treatment of the injured worker. A case has been registered in the Police and an investigation into the matter has started.

The 669-kilometre Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway is being constructed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. With an expenditure of more than Rs 40,000 crore, the Expressway aims to cut down the journey time between Delhi and Katra from nearly 14 hours to about six hours.
