Fake Air India Job Call Centre Busted in Delhi, Three Arrested

New Delhi, August 24, 2026: The East District Cyber Police in Delhi has successfully dismantled a fraudulent call centre that posed as Air India HR representatives to con job seekers. Three people, including two women, have been apprehended for allegedly orchestrating this cyber fraud scheme.

Police reports indicate that the accused allegedly approached potential candidates through various mobile numbers, offering them lucrative job opportunities with Air India. Victims were purportedly requested to pay registration and employment-related fees via UPI.

This entire racket came to light when a Chhattisgarh resident filed a complaint with the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. He had allegedly been defrauded after receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be an Air India HR executive. After being promised a job with Air India for Rs 14,000 and transferring Rs 14,500 through UPI, he realised he was a victim of fraud.

Law enforcement officials were able to trace the transaction to a bank account, and the funds were subsequently withdrawn via an ATM in East Delhi. The Cyber Police Station, East District, has registered an FIR dated August 20th under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Investigations revealed that Md. Zaid, aged 30, and residing in Wazirabad, was the owner of the bank account. He was arrested in Laxmi Nagar, and during interrogation, his connection with two women was established. The accused had allegedly been running the call centre from Laxmi Nagar for the past several months and had used different SIM cards to impersonate Air India HR staff, offering job openings.

Victims of this fraudulent scheme were reportedly asked to deposit money into different bank accounts, which was then withdrawn from ATMs nearby and distributed among the conspirators. The police estimate that one of the arrested women had been actively involved in running the call centre for approximately three months. The operation’s hub in Laxmi Nagar yielded multiple mobile phones, SIM cards, and other evidence used in the scheme.

Apart from Zaid, the two arrested women have been identified as a 24-year-old resident of Wazirabad (a BA second-year drop-out) and a 21-year-old resident of Laxmi Nagar (who has completed Class 12). Zaid is reportedly unemployed and a school dropout.

In total, authorities recovered six smartphones, three keypad phones containing numerous SIM cards, and Rs 25,000 in cash from the arrested individuals. They also found that two other complaints had been filed on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal by victims whose experiences were linked to the SIM cards used by the accused.

Police are continuing their investigation to uncover all members of the alleged network and ascertain if they were involved in any other job-related cyber frauds.

The Delhi Police urge all job seekers to verify job offers through official company websites and to exercise caution when approached by unsolicited calls asking for registration or recruitment fees. They also advise individuals against sharing sensitive information like OTPs, PINs, passwords, bank account details, or card information with unknown callers.
