CJP Announces September 5 March Over ‘Unfulfilled’ NEET Protest Commitments
New Delhi, Aug 24 – Weeks after calling off its countrywide protests over alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a “peaceful march” in the Capital on September 5.
The group has accused the Centre of going back on promises it had made during the protests to appease the demonstrators.
“We have come to the conclusion, in our National Working Committee meeting on July 25, after giving our fullest consideration, that the promises given by Centre and State/UT Governments ruled by BJP/NDA on July 25 July to the protesters across the country have no evidence of being addressed in their true spirit – and we doubt whether they ever had any intent to honour these assurances,” the satirical political group said.
The CJP will stage march, commencing from India Gate and ending at the Delhi Police Headquarters. Families of NEET aspirants, who reportedly died by suicide, and those who claim to be victims of alleged police action will lead the demonstration.
Previously, the CJP had announced suspension of its pan-India demonstration against NEET with the assurance from the government to accept its demands that included resignation of Union Education Minister, who was sacked last month following public protests and the withdrawal of the group’s agitation with the government’s assurances that victims would be compensated. Pradhan too had quit the Union Education Minister post.
In a statement it said: “Delay in any response in name of so called technicalities and lack of clear commitment from Govt/BJP/NDA Governments on the raised issue has proven our fears of this Government not living up to its written or oral assurances right”.
The CJP also raised doubt whether any ‘FIRs’, as demanded by the Supreme Court for quashing, have been provided to it for “their eventual quashing”.
“The written assurance from the Government to the CJP is also due”, the group stated. The CJP called upon all students, youth organizations and young citizens to demonstrate to this effect in very large numbers on September 5”.
Previously, a similar protest march in Delhi was mired by police’s alleged use of force to disperse protesters. At least two people allegedly died during similar protests.”.
