
Eight Killed, 10 Injured as Bus Falls Into Gorge in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh
Chamba, Aug. 8 [VoM News]: At least eight people, including the driver and conductor, were killed and 10 others injured after a private bus overturned and plunged onto a lower road in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district on Saturday morning.
VoM News has learnt that the accident occurred near Chalunj Mor in the Devikothi area on the Bairagarh-Tissa road. The bus, operated by Sharma Bus Service, was travelling from Bairagarh to Chamba when it met with the accident after covering nearly three kilometres.
According to officials, the bus had departed Bairagarh at around 6:30 a.m. with 18 passengers on board. The vehicle reportedly overturned before falling onto a road below, trapping several passengers beneath the wreckage, as per Details available with VoM News.
Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing cries for help and alerted the authorities. Rescue operations were launched by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Police, Home Guards, Fire Services and the Revenue Department.
The injured were rescued and shifted to nearby hospitals. Of the 10 injured, six sustained serious injuries and were referred to Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital in Chamba for specialised treatment.
The Chamba District Disaster Management Authority confirmed that eight people died in the accident, while 10 others were injured. The identities of the deceased have not yet been officially released.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The Bairagarh-Tissa road, a 27-kilometre mountain route through the remote Churah Valley, is known for its narrow carriageway and steep terrain. It serves as an important access route for travellers heading towards the high-altitude Sach Pass.
