7 Drug-Peddlers Nabbed in Kashmir; contraband & psychotropic substances recovered

Police arrested seven individuals on charges of drug peddling and recovered significant quantities of contraband and psychotropic substances across Kashmir.

In Anantnag, police intercepted an auto-rickshaw at Bonpora Uranhal. They apprehended three suspects, Zubair Ahmad Dar of Khanabal Batangoo, Muzafar Ahmad Dar of Uranhal, and Umar Majeed Ganie of Chee Anantnag. The search yielded 2.8 kilograms of charas powder. Separately, in Srigufwara, Mohd Shafi Ganie of Chek Poshkreeri was caught with 1.458 kilograms of cannabis powder after attempting to evade a checkpoint.

In Baramulla, police arrested Showkat Ahmad Bhat of Yakhmanpora Pattan at a checkpoint near GDC Pattan. The search revealed 19 bottles of banned syrup (Cocas Dx). An FIR has been registered, and investigations are underway.

In Awantipora, two drug peddlers were apprehended at Kadlabal-Noorpora Crossing. Identified as Suhail Ahmad Bhat of Kangan (currently residing in Achabal) and Meheraj ud Din Sheikh of Tailwani Achabal, the duo was found in possession of 1.21 kilograms of cannabis-like powder.

In Sopore, police detained Abdul Hameed Lone of Tujjer Shareef and seized 20 grams of heroin-like substance. Another suspect, Shabir Ahmad Ganie of Behrampora, was arrested at Behrampora Drusoo Rafiabad with 1.2 kilograms of charas-like substance.

In Kupwara, police at Trehgam checkpoint arrested Ashiq Ahmad Mochi of Mochi Mohalla, recovering 55 grams of charas-like substance.

All suspects have been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and investigations are ongoing. Police have reiterated their resolve to eliminate drug-related crime and have urged citizens to report suspicious activities by contacting their nearest police station or dialing 112.
