15th Anniversary of 26/11: Global Solidarity Against Terrorism
On the 15th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, the United States and Israel paid tribute to the victims, reaffirming their commitment to combating terrorism.
US and India: United Against Terror
US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, honored the victims at the US Consulate in Mumbai, pledging to continue the fight against terrorism alongside India. His message underlined the shared resolve of the US and India in countering terror threats.
Israel’s Tribute to the Victims
Israeli envoy Naor Gilon also paid homage at the Chabad House memorial in Mumbai. The memorial, bearing the names of all 26/11 victims, holds special significance as six Jews were among those killed in the attacks.
India’s Continued Quest for Justice
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar remembered the victims, emphasizing India’s ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice. The 26/11 attacks, carried out by Pakistani terrorists, targeted several key locations in Mumbai, claiming 166 lives and injuring over 300 people.
The Mumbai Terror Attacks: A Recap
On November 26, 2008, ten heavily armed terrorists from Pakistan’s Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) launched a coordinated assault on Mumbai. Key sites like the Taj and Trident hotels, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, and the Jewish center at Nariman House were attacked. While nine terrorists were killed, Ajmal Amir Qasab was captured and later executed after a legal trial in India.
This somber anniversary serves as a reminder of the ongoing global fight against terrorism and the importance of international cooperation in this endeavor.
