X Services Restored in Pakistan After 39-Hour Disruption
Following a 39-hour disruption, Twitter (referred to as X) services have been successfully reinstated in Pakistan, according to ARY News.
The outage, which began at 9 pm on February 17, caused inconvenience for users who faced difficulties accessing tweets and new posts. Many attempts to load the site resulted in a ‘this site can’t be reached’ notification, prompting frustration among users across the country.
Downdetector.pk, a real-time internet and social media outage monitoring service, recorded a significant increase in reports of Twitter outages during the downtime.
The number of reported outages rose from 185 at 9:01 pm to 239 by 9:24 pm, reflecting users’ concerns and expressions of frustration on social media platforms.
NetBlocks, a cybersecurity watchdog, verified the shutdown of Twitter in Pakistan, highlighting it as part of a series of recent internet service disruptions, including popular social media platforms, within the country.
The context is particularly significant amid the ongoing preparations for the 2024 general elections in Pakistan, where most services have been affected.
It’s worth noting that Twitter experienced a global outage in May 2023, eliciting widespread complaints from users around the world.
