Wedding Photographer Reveals How To Save Over USD 3000 On Your Wedding
Insider Advice on Saving Money from a Seasoned Photographer
Weddings are joyous celebrations of love and commitment, but they can also come with hefty price tags. From venue rentals and catering expenses to attire and decor, the costs can quickly add up. However, with the right approach and a bit of creativity, couples can save as much as $3000 on their big day.
Kris Labang, the owner of Hawaii Wedding Photography, shares top tips for reducing wedding expenses while maximizing the magic of the day.
Borrow A Venue
Kris says, ‘Consider contacting friends or family members with a suitable space for hosting your event. ‘Backyard weddings’ might be looked down on by some, but they can offer a charming and intimate setting without the hefty price tag of traditional venues. You might get lucky and find a friend willing to lend you their barn or a spot on their land, either for free or a significantly reduced price.’
Couples can save between $1,500 to $3,000, depending on the location and event size. This option cuts costs and adds a personal touch to the wedding day.
Rent Your Dress
A wedding dress can be one of the most expensive items on your wedding shopping list, so renting a dress instead of purchasing one can result in significant savings. With rental prices typically ranging from $200 to $800, couples can save on average upwards of $1,000 compared to buying a brand-new gown. Many bridal boutiques and online rental services now offer a wide selection of designer dresses available to rent at a fraction of the cost of buying new, and this option also promotes sustainability by reducing textile waste.
Reuse Your Florals
Repurposing ceremony florals for the reception can help couples save on floral expenses. By reallocating floral arrangements from the ceremony to your guest tables, you could save approximately $200 to $500, depending on the size and complexity of the arrangements. ‘This eco-friendly option also reduces waste and enhances the continuity of the wedding decor,’ states Kris. ‘This will, of course, depend on what kind of setups you order from the florist, but if set up right, they can just transfer it straight over from the ceremony site.’
Be Firm On Your Priorities
Identifying wedding priorities and allocating the budget accordingly allows couples to splurge on key elements while finding creative solutions for areas of lesser priority. Kris says, ‘By focusing on what matters most to them – whether it’s photography, entertainment, or cuisine – couples can save an estimated $500 to $1,000 and ensure maximum value for their investment.’
Get DIY-ing!
Incorporate do-it-yourself (DIY) elements into your wedding decorations, such as handmade centerpieces or personalized wedding favors. By DIY-ing, couples can save approximately $300 to $600. DIY projects also allow couples to infuse their personalities into the wedding decor and add a unique touch to the celebration.
Kris says, ‘Just remember time is money, so make sure what you make on your own is worth the money you save. It doesn’t make sense to spend eighty hours on something only to save a hundred dollars!’
Negotiate Package Deals
Negotiating package deals with vendors can result in considerable savings across multiple aspects of the wedding. Couples can save an estimated $500 to $1,000 by consolidating services through package deals. ‘Many vendors are open to customizing packages to accommodate couples’ budgets, so don’t hesitate to negotiate,’ advises Kris.
Be Ruthless With The Guest List
Limiting the guest list to include only close family and friends can lead to substantial savings on catering, venue, and other per-head expenses. ‘By reducing the guest list, couples can save approximately $500 to $1,000,’ explains Kris. While it may be challenging, limiting the guest list lets you prioritize quality over quantity, ensuring a more intimate and memorable experience for everyone involved.
Investigate All-Inclusive Venues
Simplify the planning process and maximize your savings by selecting all-inclusive wedding venues that offer comprehensive package deals. By bundling essential services such as catering, accommodations, and decor, couples can save an estimated $1,000 to $2,000. All-inclusive venues streamline the logistics of your day and eliminate the need for multiple vendors, saving couples time and money.
Look At Photo/Video Packages
Kris says, ‘You’ll need to ask to see pictures or videos of a previous event from the actual person who will be shooting your wedding so that you know exactly what quality and style you’re paying for, but selecting combo photography and videography packages from vendors offering bundled services can save approximately $500 to $1,000.’ This option ensures consistency in style and quality across both photography and videography services.
Look At Getting Married On A Weekday
Choosing to get married on a weekday can lead to potential discounts from vendors and venues. Couples can save approximately $500 to $1,000 on venue rental fees and other services by scheduling the wedding on a weekday. This is because a vendor may not have a lot of work during the week and would be open to negotiating a discount, and venues tend to be cheaper on weekdays.
In total, by implementing these savvy strategies, couples can save an estimated $3,000 or more on their wedding expenses. Kris concludes, ‘With careful planning and smart decision-making, couples can create a beautiful and memorable wedding while staying within their budget.’
