Colombo, September 11, 2023: Indian cricket team’s star batter, Virat Kohli, achieved a sensational record during the Asia Cup 2023 match against Pakistan. The 34-year-old cricketer became the fastest player to reach 13,000 runs in One Day International (ODI) cricket. He achieved this milestone in just 267 innings, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s previous record of 321 innings. Australia’s Ricky Ponting is third on the list, taking 341 innings to reach 13,000 ODI runs.
Virat Kohli’s Brilliant Knock Against Pakistan
During the match against Pakistan, Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 122 runs off 94 balls. He, along with KL Rahul, set a new Asia Cup (ODI) record by stitching a remarkable 233-run partnership. This record-breaking performance was hailed by Shubman Gill, who emphasized the significance of Rahul’s century, especially after returning from injury. Gill also praised Kohli’s achievement of reaching 13,000 ODI runs, highlighting his inspirational impact on the team.
Record-breaking Performance
Virat Kohli’s century against Pakistan marked his fourth consecutive century at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. His scores in the last three matches at the venue were 128*, 131, and 110*, showcasing his remarkable consistency. With this century, Kohli equaled Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara’s record of four centuries in the Asia Cup. Only Sanath Jayasuriya has more centuries in the tournament with six to his name.
Asia Cup Super 4 Match
In the Super 4 match, India posted a massive total of 356/2 in 50 overs against Pakistan. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 111* (106 balls), forming a dominant partnership with Virat Kohli.
Virat Kohli’s achievement further solidifies his status as one of the greatest ODI batsmen in the history of cricket.
