Unraveling Human Trafficking: NIA Files Chargesheet Against Myanmar Nationals
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken a crucial step in exposing a major international human trafficking case, filing a chargesheet against three Myanmar nationals. The accused, identified as Rabi Islam (Rabiul Islam), Shafi Alam (Sofi Alom and Sayedul Islam), and Mohammad Usman, are permanent residents of Myanmar’s Maungdaw district. The chargesheet reveals their involvement in illegal infiltration and trafficking, primarily targeting Rohingya individuals, across the India-Bangladesh border.
Illegal Infiltration Network: Myanmar Nationals Collude with Traffickers
The NIA investigations indicate that the accused entered India illegally in collaboration with traffickers and touts, using unauthorized border routes. Their activities extended to facilitating the infiltration of numerous foreign nationals. Additionally, they played a role in luring vulnerable Rohingya women from Bangladeshi refuge camps into India, promising false marriages to Rohingya men. Subsequently, these women were subjected to forced marriages in various Indian states, including UP, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, Haryana, among others.
Forged Documents and Concealed Identities: NIA Exposes Fraudulent Practices
Further probing revealed instances of document forgery, with Rabi Islam and Mohammad Usman obtaining Aadhaar cards fraudulently. These cards were then used to procure multiple SIM cards and open bank accounts, allowing the accused to conceal their true identities. With this chargesheet, the NIA has significantly progressed in unraveling and dismantling a major international human trafficking racket and network. The agency initiated its investigation on November 7, 2023, marking a significant move towards addressing such transnational criminal activities.
