Unique Chhattisgarh Village Draws Political Attention

In the lead-up to the Chhattisgarh assembly elections, a village named Anjora, with a modest population of 5,000, has become the focus of political candidates from two constituencies. Situated on the border of Durg and Rajnandgaon districts, Anjora is divided by streets, with one half falling under the Rajnandgaon constituency and the other under the Durg Rural constituency.

The Divided Village

Anjora is positioned approximately 10 km from Durg town along the Mumbai-Howrah National Highway-53 between Durg and Rajnandgaon cities. The village is unique in that it is governed by two panchayats: Anjora village panchayat in Rajnandgaon and Anjora ‘kh (B)’ village panchayat in Durg.

This division has led candidates from both Durg Rural and Rajnandgaon constituencies to campaign in Anjora ahead of the elections. Consequently, the village has become a battleground for campaign posters and banners, regardless of the constituency candidates belong to.

Peaceful Coexistence

Despite the political division, the residents of Anjora have coexisted peacefully. They celebrate festivals and other events together. Anju Sahu, the sarpanch of Anjora panchayat in Rajnandgaon, mentioned that although the village is divided by streets, the people live harmoniously.

Sahu, who is also a Congress leader, shared her personal connection to the unique village. She mentioned that her paternal home is in Anjora B, which falls under the Durg Rural constituency, while her in-laws are part of the Rajnandgaon constituency.

Upcoming Assembly Elections

The Chhattisgarh assembly elections will be conducted in two phases. The first phase, on November 7, includes Rajnandgaon and 19 other seats. The second phase, on November 17, covers the remaining 70 constituencies, including Durg Rural.

Candidates from both Rajnandgaon and Durg Rural constituencies are vying for the support of the voters in Anjora, making this village a unique political battleground.
