UN Women Declares Gaza Conflict a “War on Women”
UN Women, the United Nations agency dedicated to gender equality, has declared that the ongoing conflict in Gaza is not only a war on the general population but specifically a “war on women.”
The agency highlighted that Israeli forces have reportedly killed an estimated 9,000 women since October, averaging around 63 women per day as long as the conflict persists.
UN Women emphasized the disproportionate impact on women, citing that nearly nine in 10 women find it more challenging to access food compared to men. Additionally, about four out of five women report that their families now consume half or less of the food they used to prior to the conflict.
“As the war on Gaza approaches its five-month mark, Gazan women continue to suffer its devastating impact,” the agency stated in a Friday release.
The data presented by UN Women underscores the unique and distressing ways in which women are affected by the prolonged conflict, emphasizing the urgent need for attention to their specific challenges and vulnerabilities
